چکیده

Accurate sprint-related information, such as stride times, stance times, stride lengths, continuous Centre-of-Mass (CoM) displacements and split times of sprinters are important to both sprint coaches and biomechanics researchers. These information are traditionally captured using camera-based systems which are very expensive and time-consuming to setup. This paper investigates through a series of experiments whether an integrated sensing system would provide a practical, cost-effective alternative to measuring stride-related information of sprinters. The results show that the system achieves an accuracy within 5ms for stance time and stride time measurements, and ~10cm for localisationrelated information such as CoM forward displacement and CoM stride displacement (i.e. stride length).

Maximum-speed curve-running biomechanics of sprinters with and without unilateral leg amputations.

On curves, non-amputees' maximum running speed is slower on smaller radii and thought to be limited by the inside leg's mechanics. Similar speed decreases would be expected for non-amputees in both counterclockwise and clockwise directions because they have symmetric legs. However, sprinters with unilateral leg amputation have asymmetric legs, which may differentially affect curve-running perfo...

Morphologic and kinematic characteristics of elite sprinters.

The purpose of the study was to ascertain the basic morphologic and kinematic characteristics of elite sprinters. The sample included 24 sprinters, with times over a 100 m distance between 10.21 s and 11.19 s. Morphologic characteristics of the sprinters were measured with a test battery of 17 measures, obtained according to the methodology prescribed by the International Biologic Programme (IB...

Biomechanical analysis of sprinting: decathletes versus champions.

The purpose of this study was to compare some biomechanical variables of decathletes and world class sprinters while running the 100 metre race. Sixteen Swiss national decathletes and three world class American sprinters were filmed by a 16 mm Locam (100 fps) camera at the 70 m mark of the race. The co-ordinates for a 26-point stick figure were digitised and then submitted to analysis by a comp...

Optimisation of performance through kinematic analysis of the different phases of the 100 metres

T The aim of this study was to investigate the variability of stride length and stride frequency between athletes of different performance levels in the 100m and then verify the influence of these kinematic parameters on the phases of the race and technical efficiency. Data from a group of 8 average male sprinters (mean performance 11.18) and the men’s 100m finalists in 1991 IAAF World Champion...

Sprint Performance Changes and Determinants in Afro-Caribbean Adolescents Between 13 and 15 Years Old

Afro-Caribbean sprinters often reach high performance levels at an early age. Adolescence is a time of morphological and physiological changes. This study was designed to analyze the evolution in parameters of short sprint performance during adolescence in Afro-Caribbean boys, especially the stride number/body height ratio (SN/BH), which is at the interface of technical and morphological factor...
